Program called "International Interdisciplinary PhD studies in Biomedical Research and Biostatistics. Supporting the career and training in omic-based research and Biostatistics by inter-national and - sectoral mobility" has been selected for funding under Marie Curie Action ,Framework Horizon 2020 Program. The application has been submitted to the COFUND contest , which consists of financing for international, intersectoral and interdisciplinary programs (including doctoral studies) awarding individual research- training grants for the beginning researchers.

The expected duration of the project is 5 years (2018-2023). Funding from the European Commission was granted in the amount of 1 569 600 EURO.

It is worth emphasizing that UMB is the sole beneficiary of the Polish competition of COFUND 2016 Marie Curie Action.
Action of Marie Curie Horizon 2020 Program (from 2014), the co-financing of COFUND project was received by only 3 organizations: National Science Centre, Nenecki Institute of Experimental Biology and the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
The objective of the project is to create an Interdisciplinary Doctoral Studies in the field of medical biology and statistical bioinformatics for young researchers, involved in research within civilization diseases and also methods in the field of biostatistics and bioinformatics. These are crucial for interpretation and compilation of the data obtained in research projects. The project builds upon international Partnership-based Doctoral Studies in English program "KNOW" (2012-2016), which provide a unique opportunity of in-depth examination of innovative and large-scale research techniques, and how to use them in genomics, proteomics, metabolomics or immunology. Doctoral students, from created studies, will conduct individual research projects, based on research of a new, early detection markers, prevention and biomarkers of effective and individualized therapy of civilization diseases. All above matters will be handled based on innovative and large-scale technologies and the most modern medical imaging techniques.
The classes will be run by the professors from facilities which are world-wide leaders in the abovementioned domains (CEMBIO specialists of San Pablo University in Spain, specialists of Hasselt University in Belgium, specialists of Vienna Biocenter in Austria). Doctoral students will hold internships in domestic and foreign scientific centers specializing in oncology, cardiology, metabolic diseases, neuro-degenerative diseases, regenerative medicine, molecular biology, genetics and proteomics. Tutors of the doctoral students will be the brightest minds and outstanding specialists from several European countries.
