    Prof. Helge from Denmark on maximal fat oxidation rate in theory and practice

    On May 18-20, 2026, Prof. Jørn Wulff Helge presented issues regarding maximal fat oxidation rate as a key factor determining physical capacity.

     

    The classes took the form of theoretical lectures and practical sessions in the exercise testing laboratory at the MUB Clinical Research Centre.

    Prof. Helge discussed how the body burns fat during physical exercise and how maximal fat oxidation (MFO/PFO) and VO₂max are measured. The presentations also covered the use of different energy sources during exercise and their impact on athletic performance. Additionally, factors limiting fat burning, metabolic disorders, insulin resistance, and inflammation were analyzed. Part of the course was practical and focused on measurement methods.

     

    The visit of the Professor from Denmark took place thank at the invitation of Prof. Marcin Baranowski, Vice-Dean for Development and Medical Education in English at the Faculty of the Medicine, who also hosted Prof. Helge during his stay in Bialystok.

     

    Prof. Barbara Mroczko, Director of the Doctoral School of the MUB, thanked the Professor for visiting the University and sharing his knowledge and experience.
