Invasive cardiologists from Greece deepened their knowledge at University Teaching Hospital of Bialystok for the last few days on how to use rotational atherectomy in practice (this is a modern treatment method of arterial thrombosis).

The Białystok Clinic of Invasive Cardiology is the only certified center in Poland with the right to conduct such training. Up to now, there have been 50 two-day training sessions attended by 200 cardiologists from all over Europe.

What is rotational atherectomy? The cardiologist introduces a diamond-shaped micro drill, which rotates at 130 to 200,000 rotations per minute. The drill pierces the calcified vessels by crushing the atheromatous plaque. When the stenosis is already removed and the artery enlarged, angioplasty with stenting is possible. Rotablation is a recommended method for patients whose coronary vessels are calcified.
