The patient is 28 years old and is in the second pregnancy. She has ovarian cancer. On March 21th, she had a surgery and now will be treated, but thanks to the help of doctors from the University Center of Oncology, she has a chance to live and give birth to a healthy child. She found out about changes in the ovaries by chance during her routine examination.

-The patient came to our Center a week ago. We conducted a detailed diagnostics, which confirmed the suspicion that we are dealing with a probable cancer process - says dr hab. Paweł Knapp, coordinator of the University Center of Oncology. – When a pregnant woman hears the word "cancer", she panics. Fortunately, modern medicine offers great opportunities. We do not have to give a woman difficult dramatic choice whether to choose her life or her child's life. In most cases, we have opportunities to effectively treat and children are born healthy.

After pharmacological preparation of the mother and the fetus, on March 21th the specialists from the Center performed an operation - they removed the diseased tumor.

The patient was operated on under epidural (she was constantly awake and in contact with doctors). Mother and child feel good. Now a woman is waiting for further oncological treatment.

    - The plan for this patient will be determined after receiving the final histopathological result - explains dr hab. Paweł Knapp. - If it turns out that the cancer has a higher level than it was shown in the preliminary studies of abdominal excisions, the mother will receive chemotherapy - platinum-derived monotherapy, which, as shown by research in Europe and the world, have no negative impact on the child.
