The solemn meeting of the Council of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Medical University of Bialystok was held yesterday in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Health Sciences’ Education and Science Center. During the event, nearly 130 students of Nursing, as well as nearly 60 Midwifery (1st degree studies) made the oath and were decorated with special bonnets (czepkowanie).

Czepkowanie (putting the nursery and midwife bonnet on the head of a person) is a polish symbolic moment of admitting a student to the nurse or midwife profession. The black belt cap goes to the nurses (the nurses receive a stamp attached to the flap), and the midwives have a red belt on the bonnet. The fact that they are still learning is confirmed by the thickness of the belt, which is much narrower than the "professional" one.

In addition, at the hands of the Dean of the Faculty, prof. dr hab. Sławomir Terlikowski, several graduates with the highest scores received the Rector's Honorary Diplomas.

In his speech, the Dean asked students for empathizing with patients, to sacrifice and give hope to the suffering people.

Dr Barbara Bebko, Chief Nurse of the University Clinial Hospital emphasized that the decision to study nursing and midwifery is an excellent choice and encouraged students to work in university hospitals.

During the ceremony, students also lighted a symbolic lantern, a symbol of dedication and nursing.
