By the decision of the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, Lucyna Ostrowska received the title of professor of medical sciences and health sciences. The nomination ceremony was held on November 28, 2019 at the Presidential Palace.
Prof. Dr hab. Lucyna Ostrowska is a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical Academy of Bialystok. She specialized in internal medicine in the gastroenterology. She started working as an academic teacher and scientist in the Independent Biochemistry Laboratory, and then she worked at the Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology of the Medical University of Gdańsk (initially as an assistant, then as an assistant professor).
For many years, the Professor has been actively acquiring knowledge and clinical experience in working with an obese patient in numerous local and foreign courses and workshops.
Scientific interests of prof. dr hab. Lucyna Ostrowska focuses on the assessment of the impact of nutritional factors on the etiopathogenesis of obesity and insulin resistance, the role of swingolipids in insulin resistance, analysis of metabolic and hormonal response, and the concentration of adipokines after meals with different nutrient content in the diet of people with obesity, assessment of their energy expenditure and oxidation of energy substrates and analyzing the causes of the difficulties in treating a patient suffering from obesity).
