We are pleased to announce that we have received funding from the pilot "NAWA Medic – Support for HEIs that Offer Medical Studies", financed by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA). The grant application was prepared by the International Cooperation Department.
The aim of the "NAWA Medic" programme is to strengthen the didactic and practical potential of universities providing education in medical professions. The implementation of the action consists in inviting doctors-researchers from the European Union or the United Kingdom who possess the competences necessary to train students or Ph.D. students to the university.
The MUB has obtained a grant to cover the costs of a scholarship for Tomasz Torliński, MD, Ph.D. who will conduct classes in anaesthesiology and intensive care for students of the English Division. Additionally, he will be responsible for intraclinical training in anaesthesiology and intensive therapy using medical simulation techniques. His stay at the MUB is scheduled from March to September 2021. The scholarship holder’s supervisor shall be Sławomir Czaban, MD, Ph.D., head of the Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Clinic at the MUB. The implementation of the programme will allow for an improvement of the quality of education, an increase in international cooperation in the broadly understood medical sciences and sharing best practices in didactic and clinical questions.
Tomasz Torliński, MD, Ph.D. is a world-class specialist, intensive care and anaesthesiology consultant, teacher and person responsible for intensive care education. He is employed among others at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest centre of such type in England. He also cooperated with foreign institutions, i.e. Penn State University, College of Medicine M.S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey in the USA and Washington University in St. Louis.
