The first stage of the grant implemented by the Medical University of Bialystok in cooperation with the Academic Center for Pathomorphological and Genetic-Molecular Diagnostics has ended.

The project entitled "Development and clinical validation of a new hybrid molecular test (SARS-HYB45) for direct and rapid diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2: laboratory application and "point-of-care "(POC)" received funding from the NCBR in the amount of nearly 3 000 000 PLN.

During the meeting at the Innovative Research Center of MUB, scientists reported on the results of their work. The first step was to sequence the viral genome. After examining samples collected at the beginning of the year from 69 patients infected with Sars-Cov-2 from Podlasie Region, researchers from the Academic Center for Pathomorphological and Genetic-Molecular Diagnostics identified several variants, including the South African and British variants. In cooperation with the National Institute of Hygiene, scientists from MUB created and implemented the Polish Map of Virus Variants. The grant will last until mid-2023. Earlier, by mid-2022, a quick (detects the virus after 45 minutes) hybrid molecular test for direct SARS-Cov-2 diagnostics should be available on the market.

"The project no. POIR.01.01.01-00-1232/20-00 co-financed by the European Union within European Regional Development Fund under the Smart Growth Operational Programme. Project implemented within the competition of the National Centre for Research and Development: Express Call/Coronaviruses"
