Clinical Biostatistics received the accreditation certificate "Studies with the Future 2023" and the distinction "Leader of Education Quality".

“Studies with a future" is one of the most prestigious accreditation certificates on the Polish higher education market. It is used to distinguish the most innovative, modern and valuable study programs at Polish universities. The competition is organized by the Foundation for the Development of Education and Higher Education.

Biostatistics is an applied science which, although based on the use of statistical methods rooted in mathematics, cannot be developed without close cooperation with biomedicine. For this reason, biostatistical centers are very often located next to medical centers.

The basic innovative feature of the educational program in the field of Clinical Biostatistics at the Medical University of Bialystok is its interdisciplinarity. The curriculum includes subjects typical of "science" majors, such as mathematical analysis, linear algebra, and theory of probability; subjects in the field of IT knowledge (algorithms and data structures, programming); subjects in the field of medical sciences (endocrinology, cardiology, gynecology, oncology); and typically statistical, during which students learn the methods of statistical analysis and practice their practical application.

In addition, the internships planned as part of the field of study take place in clinics and institutions collecting medical data, thanks to which students have the opportunity to learn about the realities of working with data - how they are collected and what real problems biostatisticians conducting analyzes face.

One of the innovative elements of the curriculum in the field of Clinical Biostatistics is a dedicated block of humanizing subjects, which integrates (bio)statistics knowledge primarily with a number of issues resulting from the need to know the principles of the scientific method and ethics of a scientist. Since the profession of biostatistics is strongly related to the issue of reliable and honest interpretation of data and correct inference, humanizing subjects give graduates tools that will help them fulfill their role well.

The field of Clinical Biostatistics at MUB was created as a direct response to the needs of the medical and pharmaceutical markets indicated by representatives of employers in the course of consultations, and the scope of the curriculum meets their expectations.

First of all, the Clinical Biostatistics is largely based on IT techniques. This is necessary considering the fact that the use of statistical packages and the need to analyze data are the basic elements of biostatistics education. For this reason, the Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics of the MUB provides access to computer laboratories and enables distance and mixed learning not only if necessary (pandemic), but also as a standard adapted to the transmitted program content.

In addition, teaching students in the field of Clinical Biostatistics puts great emphasis on teamwork and joint project creation. This is to highlight the interdisciplinary, collaborative nature of the biostatistics profession.

The award in the form of the "Studies with the Future" accreditation certificate was received on behalf of MUB by dr hab. Robert Milewski from the Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics, coordinator of the field of "Clinical Biostatistics" and Michał Pawłowski, employee of the Department.

The decisive element taken into account by the Competition Committee of the "Studies with a Future" Program is the quality of the education program submitted for evaluation. Experts are examining whether the program is innovative and whether it positively stands out from other universities. They check whether the studies enable graduates to acquire learning outcomes valued by employers, strengthening their position on the Polish and European labor market. They assess whether in the course of education adequate emphasis was placed on developing students' professional skills and how the offer in this area is implemented in practice.
