In the Perspektywy University Ranking published today (23 June 2026), the Medical University of Białystok (UMB) not only secured 1st place among medical universities, but also ranked among the top ten academic universities in Poland.

Particular attention should be paid to UMB’s outstanding performance in the categories of research effectiveness and research potential, where the University achieved 2nd and 7th place respectively among more than one hundred ranked academic institutions.

UMB Rector, Professor Marcin Moniuszko, commented on the results:

"Such a high position of UMB among all Polish universities – not only medical institutions – is a source of great joy and pride for us and a success for the entire UMB community. We are especially pleased that our scientific achievements, research effectiveness, and research potential have been rated so highly. UMB’s success is also excellent news for young people planning their future and for their parents, reminding them that the best medical university in Poland and one of the country’s leading universities is located right here in Białystok, on Kilińskiego Street. There is no need to move elsewhere to study among the best."

Once again, UMB achieved a strong position in the overall academic university ranking, taking 10th place this year (ex aequo with Poznań University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk).

The ranking criteria placed the greatest emphasis on research effectiveness (30%), understood as the ability to obtain research funding, the ratio of financial resources acquired from EU framework programmes for research and innovation to the total number of staff involved in scientific activity, staff development, awarded academic degrees, as well as the number of publications and citations.

The ranking committee also evaluated internationalisation (15%), followed by research potential (13%), prestige (including academic reputation and international recognition), and graduates’ prospects on the labour market (employment rates and salary levels). Educational conditions and innovation were also taken into account.

The Medical University of Białystok achieved an outstanding 2nd place in the “research effectiveness” category, and was also highly ranked in research funding (5th place in Poland), research potential (7th place) and innovation and patents (9th place).

The Perspektywy Higher Education Ranking, established in 2000, is intended to support prospective students in choosing their field of study and university by providing reliable information at the right moment.
