It is the only such facility in the region that provides comprehensive psychological assistance. The official opening of this long-awaited investment, co-financed from European funds and the state budget, was attended, among others, by Minister of Health Adam Niedzielski.

This investment is a fundamental step in the national system of childcare - said Adam Niedzielski. I believe that we have made a milestone when it comes not only to the situation of psychiatry in Podlasie, but also to the situation of child psychiatry in the whole country, because this is the last white spot that we are eliminating in Poland - summed up the Minister of Health

Our main task now, as representatives of the Medical University of Bialystok, is the reconstruction of the psychiatric staff- said the MUB’s Rector, prof. Adam Krętowski. The good news is that we got nine residency places, and there are many more applicants - he noted

This is a good example of cooperation between government institutions and local government institutions. It allowed us to enjoy this investment today. We, as the Board of the Podlaskie Voivodeship, systematically support the children's clinical hospital.

The Marshal thanked all people involved in the project – to the minister of health, the authorities and employees of the clinical hospital, but also to the former voivodeship board "for the idea of establishing this center". Declaring his support, he also expressed hope for a quick further development of the centre.

The construction of the center took two years and was completed in May this year. The first underage patients are already being admitted - at the moment there are 13 of them in the hospital ward.

In turn, Jan Kochanowicz, director of the University Clinical Hospital, pointed out that the establishment of the center would improve the work of all departments in the hospital.

Prof. Anna Wasilewska, director of the University Children's Clinical Hospital. As she noted, "from October 1, the problem with the hospitalization of children with mental health problems ended". In turn, Maciej Olesiński, director of the Podlasie Voivodship Branch of the National Health Fund, declared that as a public payer, the National Health Fund would finance this investment.

From the psychiatrist's point of view, prof. Napoleon Waszkiewicz, head of the adult section, who noted how important in times of mental crisis are self-esteem and the conditions in which patients are admitted. Dr. Jacek Bida, the head of the children's section, spoke in a similar way.

    - We now have to recognize the needs of our patients, teach them how to understand ourselves and teach their relatives to understand children - he emphasized.

The cost of the entire project is nearly PLN 40 million. Almost PLN 23 million comes from the state budget, PLN 17 million comes from European funds, from the Regional Operational Program of the Podlaskie Voivodeship. The University Clinical Hospitals’ Psychiatry Centre has four floors (three above-ground, one underground) with a total total area of over 5,000. sqm The ground floor is divided into two parts with separate entrances: for children and adults. The first floor is reserved entirely for small patients, the second - for adults. There are 28 beds available at the Centre for Child and Youth Psychiatry and 40 at the Centre for Adult Psychiatry.

The opening of the Psychiatry Centre was also attended by: representatives of the Government Podlasie Voivode, voivodeship councilors, authorities and employees of the Medical University of Bialystok and representatives of investment contractors.
