The Experimental Medicine Centre (EMC) at the Medical University of Bialystok is one of the most modern experimental facilities in Europe. It provides conditions for obtaining and keeping experimental animals in accordance with the requirements of the European Union. It also provides the best conditions for conducting a wide range of experimental studies on animals and cell lines.
The building of the Experimental Medicine Centre meets all legal requirements for this type of institution. The area of the Centre is over 1500 m2: the experimental part with diagnostic laboratories and operating rooms, the breeding part, the quarantine part and the economic part. All rooms for breeding and keeping animals in the experiment, operating rooms, laboratory rooms are air-conditioned by a modern system ensuring optimal conditions for keeping laboratory animals. They are subject to constant video surveillance.
The Experimental Medicine Centre has rooms for animals equipped with specialised equipment for breeding and maintaining the highest quality: individually ventilated cages (IVC) enabling animals to be maintained with the highest sanitary rigours.
In the public part of the building of the Experimental Medicine Centre, there are numerous laboratories designed to work with biological material. This zone includes eight laboratories equipped for working with biological material:
- Tissue Culture Laboratories
- Endocrine Laboratory
- Microbiological Laboratory
- Toxicology Laboratory
- Morphological Laboratory
- Medical Analytics Laboratory
- Medical Equipment Laboratory
The innovative technological solutions and modern equipment used in the Centre’s main building have created conditions conducive to the work of many research teams, the creation of joint scientific projects with industry and establishing cooperation with advanced technology institutions.
The Experimental Medicine Centre is one of the few units in the country that enables experimental research to be conducted in accordance with surgical procedures in SPF (specific pathogen free) conditions.
The Experimental Medicine Centre is a body authorised to conduct all tests, including those accredited by Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) in the field of toxic properties testing. This is confirmed by the international certificate awarded to the Centre back in 2012 and subject to periodic control and verification. It is a research quality assurance system consisting of a research and service base, the most modern infrastructure that provides conditions for conducting scientific research, acquiring and maintaining laboratory animals. It is also a team consisting of experienced people who will skilfully guide you through the stages of achieving your research goals.
The EMC’s experts provide support, offer cooperation and share knowledge. They have helped to implement many ideas, scientific ideas, being a support for the development of medicine, science, business, acting in accordance with the letter of laws, regulations and decisions of Member States regarding the protection of animals used in research and other scientific purposes.
