On 19-20 April 2024, the 19th edition of the Scientific and Training Conference 'Nephrocardiology 2024', organised on a recurring basis by Prof. Beata Naumnik and the team of the 1st Department of Nephrology, Transplantology and Internal Medicine with the Dialysis Centre, took place in the Aula Magna of the Branicki Palace.

The originator of the meetings and their organiser for the first years was Prof. Michał Mysliwiec - currently Honorary Host of the Conference. The conference was held under the patronage of His Magnificence Rector of MUB, Prof. dr hab. Adam Jacek Krętowski, The opening lecture, entitled 'Modern times - euphoria and fear', delivered by the past-president of the European Society of Nephrology, Prof. Andrzej Więcek of the Silesian Medical University, opened the proceedings in five main sessions on: metabolic nephrocardiology, modern nephro- and cardioprotection, cardiovascular risk, new therapeutic options and modern solutions in end-stage renal disease.
Discussions were held on the most topical organisational issues and innovations in the nephrology-cardiology field. The debate was preceded by an ECG workshop, which Professor Dariusz Kozłowski, a master in this field, was invited to conduct.
The conference was honoured with the participation of leading figures in the world of science and Polish medicine: national consultant for nephrology and director of the CMKP, Prof. Ryszard Gellert, past president of the ERA EDTA, Prof. Andrzej Więcek, president of the Polish Society of Nephrology, Prof. Magdalena Krajewska, and past presidents of the Polish Society of Nephrology and Transplantation, Prof. Magdalena Durlik and Prof. Bolesław Rutkowski. The meeting was attended by all the heads of the Bialystok Clinics and Departments of both Nephrology and Cardiology, together with members of the Teams - for which we would like to thank them.
The organisational side of the event was overseen by Gradatim. The factual side of the Conference goes hand in hand with the spiritual nourishment. The proceedings were honoured by a splendid musical setting performed by the winner of the Amateur IV International Fryderyk Chopin Competition - Dr Ewa Suchowierska, Head of the Peritoneal Dialysis Outpatient Clinic.
The issue of kidney disease has become a pressing problem inextricably linked to the globalisation of conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity and cardiovascular disease. Given the civilisational and epidemiological aspects of this issue, nephrologists are convinced of the enduring need for interdisciplinary discussion. Hence, students from the last two years of the Faculty of Medicine of our University were invited to participate in the event. The young people enthusiastically responded to the call.
