    Students' Scientific Group

BPIDSA stands for the extracurricular student circle- Bialystok Pediatric Infectious Diseases Student Association, which is led by Dr. Kacper Toczylowski and Dr. Dawid Lewandowski from the Pediatric Infectious Diseases department in the University Children’s Teaching Hospital in Bialystok.

This scientific group brings together students from both the English and Polish divisions who share an interest in further expanding their knowledge outside the scope of the university curriculum in both pediatrics and infectious diseases. Along with insightful seminars led by both doctors on these topics, we are all encouraged to delve into our own medical research and prepare case report presentations for future meetings. These monthly meetings are exclusively in English, allowing everyone to communicate with ease, improve their medical terminology, and practice presentation skills in an open and supportive environment. Each presentation is instructed to be interactive, allowing listeners to ask questions as we go and training the presenter to anticipate and answer questions on the spot. This unique opportunity gives every student the possibility to prepare for any future conferences one may want to participate in. Furthermore, these gatherings are complemented by frequent “Meet the Expert” sessions where pediatric specialists from the Children’s Hospital offer to share their knowledge on intertwined cases or give insight into their field and work experience, giving students a behind the scenes to other pediatric departments.

In recent years members of our research circle published their considerable results online or in person at medical congresses, such as the Bialystok International Medical Congress (BIMC) and the European Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID). This gave each student the chance to share their new knowledge with other students, as well as further expand their professional network and connect with minds from all over the world. It is safe to say that the efforts of BPIDS are shaping the minds responsible for the future of medicine.
