    WORKPLACE SAFETY RULES AND REGULATIONS

     

    WORKPLACE SAFETY RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE PAEDIATRIC DEPARTMENTS OF THE BIAŁYSTOK UNIVERSITY CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL – CLASS LOCATIONS


    1. Students will only be allowed to enter a  hospital ward when they are scheduled to participate in class at that ward. No third parties may be allowed to enter.
    2. Any outer wear (cloaks, coats),  purses, backpacks, knapsacks etc. are not allowed inside the  Department.
    3. Students are only allowed to enter  operating theatres/minor surgery rooms nor to undertake any medical procedures with the class teacher’s approval  .
    4. Students are required to behave properly, keep quiet, be respectful towards the (paediatric) patients, their parents/guardians, and hospital staff.
    5. Students shall wear a clean white lab coat, indoor footwear and an ID badge with their full name, University faculty and “student” identification.
    6. Students shall adhere to all aseptic and antiseptic procedures/precautions.     Hand and medical instrument (e.g. stethoscope) disinfection is required before and after every patient examination and/or every medical procedure. Hygiene hand washing is required for visibly soiled hands Personal protection equipment (gloves, protective gowns), products, disinfectants will be used as instructed.
    7. Instructions for proper use of protective equipment/clothing and disinfectants (products and methods used for body surfaces and/or equipment) are available at the Departments and are discussed during the first classes.
    8. Students with any signs and/or symptoms of infection shall notify the class teacher, and adequate safeguards will be undertaken (protective clothing, procedures).
    9. Class teacher must be informed immediately of any injury or contact with biological materials.
    10. Gloves, tongue depressors and other single-use equipment items will be disposed to  the appropriate waste bins immediately after use (red bins/bags)
    11. Personal jewellery on the hands is to be taken off for physical examination of patients.
    12. We kindly request your special attention  to the safety and well-being of  children in the ward during classes, particularly especially beds and guardrails, to prevent accidents (such as a child falling out of  bed).
    13. It is  forbidden to take  any medical equipment/instruments or any biologically contaminated materials  out of the Departments.
    14. No food or drink is allowed on Department wards (including but not limited to chewing gum). Smoking and vaping is not allowed  on the entire University Children’s Hospital premises.
    15. Students are not allowed to use any sources of fire/flame, especially near oxygen sources.
    16. Students shall report   any uncontrolled sources of flame/fire or any other safety hazards around the teaching area to the class teacher or other hospital staff.
    17. Fire extinguishers (in red colour as required by the applicable regulations) are available on the premises of the Departments/the Hospital.
    18. In case of evacuation, instructions given by the person coordinating the evacuation are to be followed.Every physician is obliged to provide assistance/care upon request whenever  immediate medical attention is required . Anaphylaxis kits and (wound) dressings are located in the ‘minor surgery’ rooms at the Departments.
