    RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR STUDENTS OF THE ENGLISH DIVISION, 3rd year, 2023/2024

     

    1. The Pathophysiology course is conducted in accordance with the detailed schedule.

    2. On entering lecture and/or class site, students are required to change shoes. Overcoats, outdoor jackets etc. must be left in the cloakroom on the ground floor.
    3. To enter the Department of General and Experimental Pathology, use the corridor on the ground floor.
    4. Eating or drinking is not allowed during classes.
    5. Mobile phones and audio devices must be switched off during class. Taking photographs and audio recording is not allowed.
      Students are obliged to
      comply with the ban on having or using unauthorized aids, including all electronic devices, accessories for such devices, during examinations, tests and other forms of checking knowledge.*
    6. Students should prepare for class by following the required reading. A short written assessment of knowledge may take place during any class.
    7. Students can receive 1 bonus point for extraordinary activity in each training module (2-3 classes ending with a partial test). This bonus point will be added to the score for the partial test covering the respective module.
    8. A student who was absent from the classes for a valid reason may take an equivalent training with another group during the same week, provided that it has been agreed with the Class coordinator in advance.
    9. In case of an excused absence, students should catch up the material covered during missed class and obtain credit for this material at the time agreed with the teacher (where they will be given a written task + 3 oral questions may be asked) before the upcoming partial test. Credits will not be awarded to students with unexcused absences.
    10. All absences must be excused (from class, lecture, consultation, partial test, pre-exam, final exam, retake). Participation in online lectures will be verified through authorized access via the Blackboard platform within 14 days of their availability. If an absence is due to health reason, the student is required to present a medical certificate or a written statement confirmed by the Dean (to be filed at the Department).
      Absence from the last class in a given semester must be excused till the end of the winter or summer semester, respectively.
    11. Partial tests covering the class and lecture syllabus: each test consists of 20 multiple-choice questions, with a maximum score of 20 points. Time for test: 25 minutes. In case of an unexcused absence student it not allowed to take the pre-exam or the final exam.
      If the absence is excused, the student can take the partial test at a different date/time.
    12. Bonus points  for partial tests are added to the final exam score (in the first term only). 
      20 points = 2 bonus scores, 18-19 points = 1 bonus score.
    13. Students have to fulfil the following criteria to be allowed to take the final exam:
      - receive min. 48 points (60%) for all the 4 mid-terms, and
      - be present at min. 13 classes, and
      - obtain credit from min. 14 classes, and
      - be present at min. 8 lectures.
    14. Pre-exam: Students with less than the minimum score  (<48 points) who have fulfilled the remaining criteria will be allowed to take the final exam after passing a pre-exam (10 test questions, rated 1 point for the correct answer and 10 open questions, each of which can be awarded a maximum of 2 points). Pre-exam covers the whole class (80% questions) and lecture (20% questions ) syllabus. A pre-exam takes 60 minutes. A minimum of 18 points (60%) is required to pass the pre-exam.
    15. A student who receives min. 76 points for all the partial tests (95% ) will be exempted from the exam and receive a “very well” grade.
    16. Final exam is consisted of 50 multiple-choice test questions (40 covering class topics + 10 covering the lectures);  It takes 60 minutes; and minimum 30 points are required to pass (60% correct).
      Student will be graded as follows:
      5.0 (48-50 points) – very well                           4.5 (4+) (44-47 points) – better than well
      4.0 (39-43 points) – well                                   3.5 (3+) (34-38 points) – fairly well
      3.0 (30-33 points) – satisfactory (sufficient)      2 (<30 points) – unsatisfactory (failed).
    17. In exceptional and justified cases the Head of the Department may agree to organize the final exam as an oral exam.
    18. Non-appearance at an examination on the set date without a justification document leads to award of the unsatisfactory grade and shall result in the loss of the right to resit the examination. A justification document should be submitted to the examiner at the latest on the date of the examination, and in exceptional cases within 7 days after the due date of the examination. A justification document may be a medical certificate, or a statement of a random event certified by the Dean.
    19. Exam retakes (two dates) will be conducted in the summer examination session by 15 September 2024. The duration of the retake exams is 60 minutes. Minimum 30 points are required to pass (60% correct).
      The first retake exam will consist on 50 multiple-choice test questions (40 covering class topics + 10 covering the lectures). 
      The second retake exam will consist of test and open questions (30 test questions - scored 1 point for a correct answer and 10 open questions, each of which can be awarded a maximum of 2 points). 80% questions will cover class topics, 20% questions will cover lecture topics.
    20. If a student is found to have had or used an unauthorized form of aid, the student's examination is terminated, and the Rector is notified of the above to initiate disciplinary proceedings and, in justified cases, also to notify law enforcement authorities about the suspicion of a crime. Termination of the examination results in an unsatisfactory grade for the student without the possibility of using any subsequent form of getting his/her grades up (or a resit before an external board).*
    21. Non-appearance at the first resit examination without a justification leads to the unsatisfactory grade and shall result in the loss of the right to an examination on the second date. A justification document should be submitted to the examiner no later than on the date of the examination, and in exceptional cases within 3 days after the examination date, but not later than on 15 September. A justification document may be a medical certificate, or a statement of random event certified by the Dean.
    22. Non-appearance at the second resit examination leads to unsatisfactory grade.
    23. A failure of all final exam attempts means that the final grade is inadequate and the student will have to retake the whole course.
    24. Results of class tests/mid-terms/pre-exam and final exam will be announced in the information board, or sent to the year students’ representative.
    25. Students are entitled to insight into class/mid-term/pre-exam/final exam tests on the day of results announcement or at an appointed date.
    26. Any remarks regarding class tests/partial tests/pre-exam /final exam or retakes should be submitted in writing to the course teacher immediately afterwards.
    27. In all matters dealt with by means of electronic correspondence concerning their studies, the student is obligated to use their University student account within the following domain: student.umb.edu.pl.*
    28. Any comments shall be presented to Tomasz Andrzej Bonda, MD, PhD, Head of the Department.
