    Which qualifications do I obtain upon completing a Nursing degree programme at the Medical University of Białystok?

    Upon completion of the first-cycle degree programme, graduates are awarded a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. To practise the profession in Poland, one must obtain a licence to practise, which is granted by the relevant regional council of nurses and midwives once the statutory requirements have been met. The degree certificate alone does not constitute this licence.

    In accordance with the provisions of the Act of 15 July 2011 on the professions of nurse and midwife, the practice of the nursing profession consists of providing healthcare services, in particular:

    1. assessing a patient’s health conditions and needs;
    2. identifying a patient’s nursing care needs;
    3. planning and providing nursing care for a patient;
    4. independently providing, within a specified scope, preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitative services, as well as emergency medical procedures;
    5. carrying out doctors’ orders in the process of diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation;
    6. determining the type and scope of care and nursing services;
    7. health education and health promotion.

    Yes, completing a first-cycle degree in nursing at the Medical University of Białystok enables you to apply for authorisation to practise as a nurse abroad. However, before starting work, you must complete the formalities required in the country where you intend to work.

    Within the European Union, nursing qualifications are subject to automatic recognition, in accordance with Directive 2005/36/EC. Similar rules apply in the other countries of the European Economic Area and in Switzerland. Under this procedure, recognition of qualifications does not require you to repeat or supplement your studies.

    Outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland, the requirements are determined by the legislation of the country in question.
