On 30–31 March 2026, the Medical University of Białystok hosted a training session entitled “Understanding incomprehensible behaviours”, organised as part of a series of training sessions prepared for members of the EUNICE Alliance. The event was organised by the MUB International Cooperation Department as part of the project “Organisation and delivery of 13 training sessions for members of the EUNICE Alliance, delivered by highly qualified staff from the Medical University of Białystok”.

The training focused on issues related to understanding difficult and seemingly incomprehensible behaviours encountered in clinical practice and when working with patients requiring a specialised communicative and therapeutic approach. Participants had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the mechanisms underlying such behaviours, as well as to learn about practical tools supporting the correct interpretation of patients’ reactions and the building of effective therapeutic relationships in an interdisciplinary setting.

The training was led by Dr Barbara Polityńska-Lewko, Head of the Department of Psychology and Philosophy, who specialises in communication in healthcare and working with patients in situations requiring particular sensitivity and interpersonal skills.

The meeting was attended by the Rector’s Representative for Development at the Medical University of Białystok within EUNICE, Prof. Anna Moniuszko-Malinowska, who welcomed the guests, encouraging them to participate actively in the training and to make effective use of their time there, including for networking and expanding international cooperation.

The training was prepared and delivered by highly qualified teaching staff from the Medical University of Białystok, in accordance with the principles of the EUNICE Alliance, one of whose key pillars is the development of a high-quality, modern and flexible educational offering that responds to current socio-economic needs.

The EUNICE Alliance bases its activities on values such as needs-based education, innovation and multilingualism, with the educational dimension being one of its most important priorities. It is a network of universities collaborating to create a modern educational environment that responds to the contemporary challenges of the academic and social environment.

By joining the EUNICE Alliance, the Medical University of Białystok has declared its readiness to share its high-quality teaching potential. During the project preparation phase, an analysis of the training capabilities of the UMB staff was carried out, as a result of which the university’s experts drew up a list of 31 proposed training topics. In collaboration with the Alliance’s partners, 13 topics were selected that best meet the needs of the member universities — both those representing the medical sciences and those interested in interdisciplinary cooperation.

The implementation of this training series is an important element in the internationalisation of MUB’s teaching activities and in strengthening academic cooperation within the EUNICE Alliance.
