High substantive level, large frequency and dynamic discussion in companion of Polish and Italian experts - that is how the Scientific Symposium titled:” New perspectives in the diagnosis of autoimmune thyroid diseases in children” that took place on the 17th of June 2026 inside the walls of The Branicki Palace can be summarized.
The event was a part of a joint scientific project realized by the Clinic of Pediatrics, Endocrinology, Diabetology, with the Cardiology Unit of the Medical University of Bialystok, which was financed under the prestigious programme of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) - Joint Research Projects between the Republic of Poland and the Republic of Italy (Canaletto)

The Symposium opened prof. dr hab. Artur Bossowski, the Head of the Department of Pediatrics, Endocrinology and Diabetology with the Cardiology Unit at the Medical University of Bialystok. In his speech, he presented innovative research results conducted in Białystok, regarding the analysis of the number, function and apoptosis of regulatory T lymphocytes in children and adolescents with autoimmune thyroid diseases.
A huge interest was sparked by the appearance of guests from the University of Messina (Italy). Prof. Małgorzata Waśniewska and prof. Tommaso Aversa shared with the listeners newest European standards and guidelines in terms of diagnosis and treatment of the Hashimoto’s disease and Graves’s disease in youngest patients. The experts from Sicily took notice of the changing model of endocrine care and the challenges that modern clinicians face.
