International cooperation, prestigious research centres and real benefits for the entire academic community. The PROM project, implemented by the Medical University of Bialystok, confirmed that the university is effectively building its position in the global circulation of science and education.
During the project, 73 international mobility programmes were completed and fully accounted for. Twenty-nine MUB students participated in the programme, as well as 23 MUB doctoral students and 13 MUB employees (12 of whom were academic and technical staff, and one represented the administration). An important element of the project were also visits from abroad: six foreign doctoral students and two foreign employees took advantage of the PROM programme.
The project was two-way. Of the 73 mobility programmes, 65 involved representatives of the Medical University of Bialystok travelling to foreign centres or international conferences, while eight involved doctoral students and staff from abroad coming to Bialystok. Scientists and doctoral students from Algeria, Ukraine, Turkey and Spain, among others, came to the university to conduct research visits and internships at such units as the Department of Bromatology, the Centre for Regenerative Medicine, the Laboratory of Bioinformatics and Multiomic Analysis, and the Department of Biotechnology.
At the same time, representatives of the Medical University of Bialystok carried out mobility programmes in 17 countries. European countries dominated the structure of trips (77%), with the rest going to the United States. Project participants visited renowned academic and scientific centres, including the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Imperial College London, the University of Padova, Weill Cornell Medicine and Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and took part in the most prestigious scientific conferences in the world.
The PROM project enabled trips of a very diverse nature: from study visits and professional internships, through specialist courses, to participation in international conferences. Doctoral students from the Medical University of Bialystok had the opportunity to work at one of the world's leading centres for genetics and molecular biology in Boston, where they established contacts with teams conducting research on modern therapies for diabetes, obesity and pharmacogenomics. The university's researchers completed internships at Imperial College London, exploring modern methodologies for researching lung diseases, and at the University of Padua, developing innovative methods of cancer therapy using the zebrafish model. Students and doctoral students participated in international scientific conferences, such as METABOLOMICS 2025, ISTH 2025 Congress and ICHAMS 2025, presenting their own research results and building international networks.
However, the most important results of the project go beyond statistics. PROM has contributed to strengthening the international position of the Medical University of Bialystok, transferring good practices to home institutions, and developing the scientific and intercultural competences of participants. The project has also opened up real prospects for further cooperation, including joint publications and research projects.
The International Cooperation Department of the Medical University of Bialystok was responsible for preparing the grant application, comprehensive implementation and settlement of the project. The substantive value of the trips was supervised by the Rector's Plenipotentiary for International Cooperation, Prof. Tomasz Hryszko, who reviewed the mobility applications submitted by the participants.
The success stories of selected participants are available on the MUB website under the PROM and Success stories tabs.
The PROM – Short-Term Academic Exchange programme is financed by the European Union as part of the project Short-Term Academic Exchange as a Way to Improve the Quality of Education in Higher Education and Research Institutions.
