Representatives of the EUNICE European University once again had the opportunity to visit Poland to take part in the second specialist training course entitled “How Your Brain Works,” devoted to the functioning of the human brain. Representatives of the University of the Peloponnese in Greece, the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu in Portugal, and the University of Cantabria in Spain came to the Medical University of Bialystok. The training was an opportunity not only to deepen knowledge about the workings of the brain, but also to build international relations and exchange experiences between participants from different countries.

The training was hosted by the Medical University of Bialystok and led by distinguished experts from the university: dr Barbara Polityńska-Lewko from the Department of Psychology and Philosophy, prof. dr hab. Zenon Mariak, and Dr Karol Sawicki from the Neurosurgery Clinic.

The meeting was opened by prof. dr hab. Anna Moniuszko-Malinowska, the Rector's Plenipotentiary for Cooperation with the European University (Eunice), who welcomed the guests and encouraged them to actively participate in the training and to make effective use of their time, including networking and expanding international cooperation. Jakub Wszeborowski, Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Department, presented the opportunities for cooperation between the Medical University of Bialystok and the universities affiliated with the EUNICE Alliance as part of the “valuEU” project, which, among other things, is financing the training.

The training program covered topics such as brain anatomy and neuroimaging techniques, the hypothesis of somatic markers and their impact on decision-making, brain function, and memory issues. The program was supplemented with integration and cultural elements. Guests had the opportunity to learn about the history and architecture of the main headquarters of the Medical University of Bialystok—the Branicki Palace—during a tour led by guides from the Museum of the Medical University and the Branicki Palace.

International educational initiatives such as this training course not only promote the exchange of knowledge, but also help to build lasting relationships between universities and develop intercultural skills. Participants from abroad emphasized the high academic level of the classes and the opportunity to gain knowledge that could be useful in their further education and future careers.

The event was organized as part of the “valuEU – strengthening the potential of the Medical University of Bialystok in the EUNICE European University” project, which aims to strengthen the scientific potential of the Medical University of Bialystok by developing international cooperation and opening the university to partners from all over Europe.

The program is financed by the European Union as part of the project entitled Support for European University Alliances, number FERS.01.05-IP.08-0219/23 (FERS Projects).
