    Patent for Natural Saliva Substitute

    Medical University of Bialystok, Bialystok University of Technology and Nantes Nanotechnology Cooperate received a patent for the invention “Natural Saliva Substitute”.

     

    The invention was worked on by a team of scientists from the Bialystok University of Technology: prof. Jan Dąbrowski and dr inż. Joanna Mystkowska and from the Medical University of Bialystok: prof. Halina Car and dr Katarzyna Niemirowicz. Natural Saliva Substitute obtained the patent protection in Poland on February 9, 2018.

     

    The essence of the invention is a substitute for natural saliva used for oral care with favorable physicochemical and tribological properties. The substance of artificial saliva is composed of mucin, xanthan gum and a colloidal solution of nanogold. It was prepared on the basis of physiological saliva treated with low-temperature and low-pressure plasma.

     

    The substance is intended for people with salivary disorders. It also increases the comfort of wearing dental prostheses. What is more, it is helpful during cancer therapy or during the use of drugs that inhibit the secretion of saliva. It can also be used by patients with progressive carious process. The role of the Natural Saliva Substitute is to moisten the mouth and reduce friction in the dental system.
