The Academic Community and invited guests took part in the ceremonial Inauguration of the New Academic Year at the Medical University of Białystok, which took place at the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic. The academic year began with over 6,000 students and PhD students and 952 academic teachers.

At the very beginning, everyone watched the latest promotion video showing the University's potential.

In inaugural speech, Rector of the Medical University of Bialystok, prof. Adam Krętowski said, among others: "I believe that the activities undertaken by the University authorities in recent years in terms of improving the quality of research work and infrastructure development have contributed to the Medical University of Białystok achieving the highest marks among medical universities in Poland in the evaluation of scientific disciplines and a high position in world science”.

Prof. Krętowski also announced work on establishing a 4th faculty at the MUB: "We believe that activities related to expanding the educational offer in the field of "digital medicine", i.e. fields combining medical sciences with exact sciences, will be the beginning of the creation of a fourth faculty at our University."

Inaugural lecture entitled "The practice of medicine in the 21st century" was delivered by prof. Jose Florez, Chair of the Department of Medicine Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School Professor, member of Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Boston USA. The guest from the United States is also an institute member at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, where he actively participates in the Medical and Population Genetics program.

As head of department at MGH, he supervises 10 clinical departments, seven research units/centres and 19 training programs involving over 1,000 research workers, 900 trainees (clinical fellows, researchers and medical residents) and 100 medical practices. Throughout his research career, he and his team have contributed to the conduct and analysis of high-throughput genomic research on type 2 diabetes and related traits in numerous international consortiums.

The president of the Medical Research Agency, dr hab. Robert Sierpiński was aslo present during the inauguration. He presented the MUB authorities with a symbolic check - for the amount of nearly PLN 30,000,000, which will finance the creation of the Digital Medicine Center at MUB.

The next part of the ceremony was the matriculation of students and doctoral students. During the inauguration, representatives of the student government, doctoral students and the English Division also spoke.

The ceremonial inauguration of the New Academic Year at the Medical University of Białystok was honored with a performance by the MUB Choir under the direction of prof. Anna Moniuszko.
