On October 28, 2023, MUB’s Erasmus+ Office held a “1st Erasmus+ Sightseeing Day” event.
The participants were: this year’s Erasmus+ incoming students, MUB’s outgoing students that took part in mobilities for study and traineeship, Erasmus+ Buddies, Erasmus+ Programme Coordinators and representatives of the International Cooperation Department and the Erasmus+ Office.
The event started with handing out gift packs with Erasmus+ Programme promotional gadgets. Then, the participants went on a tour around Bialystok that was conducted by a professional, English-speaking guide.
Despite the bad weather, the participants managed to explore the city, learn about its history and get to know some interesting facts about Bialystok’s most notable monuments and well-known spots.
Next, the group headed to the Sybir Memorial Museum. They listened to the guide with keen interest, as she is authorised to be showing around the museum too. There, the tour was also conducted in English.
The participants could learn about Bialystok’s and Poland’s history of the forced deportations deeply into Siberia. As described on the Sybir Memorial Museum’s website:
“The Sybir Memorial Museum is a common work of the Sybiraks generation and their grandchildren, who together tell the world about people thrown by fate into the huge depths stretching between the Ural Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, into the depths of human decline and almost inhuman survival force: somewhere between Siberia and Sybir
In the light of the fate of Poles and other citizens of the multinational Second Polish Republic, we show universal truths about human cruelty and fraternal strength of survival, about the ideological madness of totalitarianisms and about the basic moral values developed by civilization.” (source: https://sybir.bialystok.pl/the-museum/)
After visiting the Sybir Memorial Museum, the group went together for dinner at one of the Bialystok’s restaurants. They had a chance to taste the regional and national cuisine with its famous dishes, such as babka ziemniaczana, pierogi or kaszanka. The event was aimed at integrating the MUB’s Erasmus+ community, promoting the Erasmus+ Programme and improving the participants’ language skills
The “1st Erasmus+ Sightseeing Day” was funded by the capital of the Organisational Support (OS) of the Erasmus+ Financial Agreement no. 2021-1-PL01-KA131-HED-000003498
