profesor Monika Zbucka-KrętowskaProfessor Monika Zbucka-Krętowska graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical University of Bialystok. She is a specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology and holds a specialisation in endocrinology. As a gynaecologist-endocrinologist, she works at the Outpatient Clinic for Gynaecological Endocrinology and the Outpatient Clinic for Reproductive Health at the Medical University of Bialystok Clinical Hospital and at the Outpatient Clinic for Child and Girl Gynaecology at the Medical University of Bialystok Children's Clinical Hospital.
She started her scientific work as a third-year student under the supervision of Prof. Sławomir Wołczyński in the Department of Gynaecological Endocrinology. After receiving her medical degree, she continued her scientific activity during her doctoral studies, which she completed with the defence of her doctoral thesis in 2007 on the basis of the thesis entitled: ‘Expression of estrogen receptor genes α and β, progesterone receptor, aromatase and tomoregulin 2 in myometrium and uterine myomas.’ From the very beginning of her career, she participated in research work in a centre abroad at the University Hospital of Caen in France as a two-time scholarship holder of the French Government. She gained professional experience in combination with research work under the guidance of Professor Peter Von Theobald, head of the Department of Gynecology Obstetrics and Reproductive Medicine, University Hospital of Caen, and Professor Marie Laure Kottler, head of the Department of Reproduction and Genetics, University Hospital of Caen (CHU de Caen Normandie).
In 2018, she was awarded a postdoctoral degree in medical sciences on the basis of her scientific achievement ‘Research on pathogenetic mechanisms and early biomarkers of selected pregnancy pathologies’.
Her scientific output to date comprises 51 papers, including 43 original papers and 8 review papers with a total IF of 118.039 and an MNiSW/MEiN score of 2680 points, her publication's Hirsch index is 13. She has also co-authored 5 chapters in monographs and textbooks.
She has gained professional experience in numerous centres abroad: Gynecological Department, Hospitais da Universitade de Coimbra, Portugal, Gynecological Department, Radiology Department, Boston University School of Medicine / Boston Medical Center, USA. She also completed a research and training internship at the Stem Cell Institute at James Graham Brown Cancer Center, University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky, USA.
The main area of scientific interest, which has resulted in innovative publications, is research on the search for early biomarkers of pregnancy pathology and understanding the pathogenetic mechanisms of abnormal fetal development. The most significant area of research in the output included the search for pathomechanisms leading to fetal macrosomia and the analysis of early biomarkers of abnormal birth weight, as well as the assessment of mechanisms related to the adverse effects of bisphenol A on the course of pregnancy and reproductive health. There is no doubt that the results of the studies to date significantly increase our knowledge of the factors that are potentially involved in the pathogenesis of abnormal fetal development.
In her scientific activity, Prof. Zbucka-Krętowska also pays attention to legal and medical aspects in perinatology, including accessibility to early detection and treatment of birth defects as an element of prevention of social exclusion. Another important direction of her scientific activity is research into neoplastic diseases of the reproductive organs in the context of the search for early biomarkers and knowledge of pathogenetic mechanisms.
Professor Monika Zbucka-Krętowska is the supervisor of two doctoral theses completed with public defence and the scientific supervisor of 4 doctoral students. She has reviewed three doctoral theses and a number of master's theses, and was a reviewer in the procedure for awarding the postdoctoral degree.

Prof. Monika Zbucka-Krętowska is the coordinator of didactics for the subject of obstetrics and gynaecology at the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences and Faculty of Pharmacy at the Medical University of Bialystok and supervises the didactics implemented by four clinical units. He is also one of the specialists participating in the specialisation examinations at the Centre for Medical Examinations.
Since 2019, she has been heading the Department of Gynecological Endocrinology and Adolescent Gynecology, which she organised using the staff of the Medical University of Bialystok Clinical Hospital and the J. Śniadecki Provincial Complex Hospital in Bialystok.
Prof. Monika Zbucka-Krętowska's passion is ... solving gynaecological and endocrinological puzzles for women, teenage and younger girls. In her free time she loves dancing and music ... especially latino and Italian music (No 1 is ... ‘Acapulco’).
