Prof dr hab. Agnieszka Tycińska, from the Department of Cardiology and Internal Medicine with Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, is the only Polish woman to have been elected a member of the Board of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) for the 2024-2026 term. This is a great honour for Polish cardiology and a tribute to Prof Tycińska's scientific achievements and activities.
The European Society of Cardiology is a leading scientific organisation of more than 100,000 cardiovascular specialists, mainly cardiologists, from across Europe. It was founded in 1950 and aims to promote advances in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
ESC activities include:
- Research: The ESC supports and promotes scientific research on cardiovascular disease. It publishes scientific journals, organises congresses and conferences and awards research grants.
- Development of management guidelines: The ESC develops management guidelines for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. These guidelines form the basis for cardiology practice throughout Europe.
- Education and continuing professional development: The ESC offers a variety of education and training programmes for cardiologists and other healthcare professionals.
- Public awareness: The ESC runs awareness campaigns on cardiovascular disease and promotes healthy lifestyles.
Prof. Agnieszka Tycińska is a 1999 graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical University of Bialystok. She works as an academic teacher and researcher at the MUB Department of Cardiology. She received her MD degree in 2005 and her postdoctoral degree in medical sciences in 2014. In 2020, she was awarded the title of professor of medical sciences and health sciences. She obtained her specialisation in internal medicine, cardiology and intensive care.
Since 2018, she has been Deputy Head of the Department of Cardiology at the University Clinical Hospital and Head of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, and is also Deputy Director for Clinical Affairs of the MUB Clinical Research Support Centre. In 2022, she was appointed provincial consultant in intensive care.
Prof. Agnieszka Tycinska is involved in the work of the Polish Cardiac Society (PTK) and the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). She is the author or co-author of publications with a total IF of almost 400, Hirsch Index of 20 (Scopus database). She has received numerous awards from the MUB Rector.
Privately, Prof. Agnieszka Tycińska was a long-time chorister of the AMB/MUB Choir, enjoys classical music and travelling. She is married and is the mother of a son, Franciszek.
