    STER NAWA scholarship holders received diplomas from Vice-Rector Adrian Chabowski

    On 19 February 2026 at 14:00, a congratulatory diploma ceremony was held for doctoral students of the Doctoral School of the Medical University of Bialystok, who were awarded prestigious scholarships for international projects.

     

    The ceremony was organised on the initiative of the Vice-Rector for Education, prof. dr hab. Adrian Chabowski, the Director of the Doctoral School, prof. dr hab. Barbara Mroczko, and the MUB International Cooperation Department.

     

    Scholarships for the best doctoral students

    Scholarships were awarded to five doctoral students studying on the international track, for the period from 1 January to 30 September 2026. Each of the scholarship recipients will receive monthly support of PLN 5,000, which is a total of PLN 45,000 for the implementation of an international project.

     

    The winners were:

    • Franciszek Kuklinski - “Assessment of inflammatory biomarkers (hs-CRP, IL-6, TNF-a) as predictors of complications after endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms".
    • Hanna Grabowska – “Assessment of Selected Biochemical, Spirometric, and Echocardiographic Parameters in Patients Undergoing Minimally Invasive Correction of Pectus Excavatum Using the Nuss Procedure".
    • Magdalena Chlabicz – “Different forms of nicotine use (traditional cigarettes, e-cigarettes, tobacco warmers) vs. epidemiological characteristics and evaluation of the biochemical and proteomic blood profile in the general population - analysis of the Białystok PLUS cohort".
    • Małgorzata Chlabicz – "SHS-PARTICLES - epidemiological, clinical and prognostic analysis of the stroke-heart syndrome".
    • Teresa Fernandez Moreno - "The role of inflammation in patients  with heart failure with improved ejection fraction (HFimpEF): inflammatory pathways and biomarkers". 

     

    The scholarships were awarded in accordance with the Regulations for the award of scholarships for the best doctoral students of the MUB Doctoral School and based on the evaluation of the submitted applications.

     

    Support for the internationalisation of research

    During the course of the scholarships, doctoral students will conduct research projects in cooperation with renowned foreign centres such as the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the University of Ljubljana, the University of Greifswald and the University of Liverpool. The cooperation includes, among other things, the preparation of joint scientific publications, patent applications and the presentation of research results at international conferences.

     

    Project funded by NAWA

    The scholarships were awarded as part of the project entitled 'Intensification of the internationalisation process and development of the Doctoral School at the Medical University of Bialystok', funded by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange within the 'STER NAWA - Internationalisation of Doctoral Schools - Call 2024' Programme.

    The project manager is prof. dr hab. Barbara Mroczko. The International Cooperation Department is responsible for the administrative coordination of the project.

    This programme is an important element of the MUB’s internationalisation strategy, supporting the development of young scientists and strengthening the university's international research cooperation.

     

    We would like to congratulate all the scholarship holders and wish them further scientific success.

    The next academic year will see the awarding of a further eleven scholarships under the STER NAWA Programme.
