The Department of Medical Microbiology and Nanobiomedical Engineering at the Medical University of Bialystok once again hosted an international intern. On this occasion, a second-year Life Sciences student from the Université de Toulouse (France) joined the team for a two-week research internship at the Medical University of Bialystok.

The academic supervisor for the internship was dr hab. Urszula Wnorowska, who prepared a programme comprising both theoretical components and intensive laboratory sessions. During her stay, the student had the opportunity to learn about modern methods used in microbiology and experimental biology, took part in ongoing research, and gained an insight into the organisation of the research team’s work on national and international research projects.

The internship took place at the Department of Medical Microbiology and Nanobiomedical Engineering, headed by prof. dr hab. Robert Bucki – a renowned scientist with an international track record, whose team has for many years been conducting research into modern antimicrobial therapies, biomaterials and innovative solutions in the field of translational medicine. Professor Robert Bucki’s openness to international collaboration and his commitment to fostering a supportive environment for young researchers make the Department an attractive place for students and PhD candidates from various countries to gain research experience.

The visiting student’s stay was not only an opportunity to acquire new laboratory skills, but also to exchange experiences, learn about different educational models and establish contacts which may, in the future, lead to further joint research projects and academic mobility programmes.

International internships are an important element of the internationalisation process at the Medical University of Bialystok. The benefits of such initiatives are enjoyed both by students visiting our university and by research teams, who gain the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience and to build lasting relationships with international partners.

The organisation of the internship was also made possible thanks to the administrative support of the Medical University of Bialystok. The Head of the International Cooperation Department if the MUB, dr Tomasz Maliszewski, was responsible for coordinating the formalities related to the preparation and organisation of the international student’s stay.

We encourage staff of the Medical University of Bialystok to take on the role of academic supervisors for international students and PhD candidates. Organising short-term internships is an excellent opportunity to promote our research, develop international cooperation and raise the profile of the Medical University of Bialystok on the international stage. Each such visit represents another step towards strengthening our university’s position as a modern, open and actively collaborative academic centre.
